Skills
Reusable, packaged know-how that Alto and agents apply to recurring work — and how to use them.
A skill is a reusable, packaged way of doing something — the steps, judgment, and structure behind a repeatable task. Skills let AltStudio bring a consistent, expert approach to recurring work instead of starting from a blank slate each time.
How skills are used
Skills are retrievable guidance that Alto and agents draw on when a task calls for them. There are two ways they come into play:
- You invoke one directly. In the Workbench, type
/to open the menu and pick a published skill to apply to the current task. - An agent applies one. When an agent takes on work, it can pull in the skills relevant to that work automatically.
A skill captures how to approach a task. Pair it with your knowledge — documents, brand, business context — and the result is both well-structured and grounded in your material.
The skills library
Your workspace has a library of skills — some published for everyone, some still in draft. Each skill has a title, a description, and guidance on when it applies, so it's clear what a skill is for before you use it.
Authoring skills
Skills can be authored and published within AltStudio, so your team's best approaches become reusable across the workspace. See Authoring skills for how to create and publish one.
