Sharing & live links
Publish a visualisation as a live web link — public or passphrase-protected — that anyone can open in a browser, with no AltStudio account.
Some work is meant to be seen, not downloaded. A visualisation — an interactive, brand-themed piece built on the canvas — can be published as a live link: a web page anyone can open in a browser, with no AltStudio account and nothing to install.
Live links are for visualisations. Documents and decks are meant to leave AltStudio as files or through your workspace instead — see exporting & sharing.
Publishing a link
Choose Share
Open the visualisation and choose Share. Optionally give it a title, and decide whether it should be public or passphrase-protected (below).
Publish
AltStudio publishes a frozen snapshot of the visualisation as it is right now and gives you a link to copy and send. Just before it goes live, the piece is rendered and checked — any issues surface as warnings, not blockers, so you can decide whether to fix them or publish anyway.
Share it
Send the link. Anyone who opens it sees the visualisation in their browser — no sign-in, nothing to download.
The link is a snapshot
A published link is frozen at the moment you publish — it captures the visualisation as it was then. If you keep editing the node afterwards, the live link doesn't change underneath your viewers. When you want them to see your latest, republish: the same link updates to the current version. A link whose visualisation has since moved on is flagged stale, so you know when a republish is due.
Public or passphrase-protected
Every link is one of two kinds:
- Public — anyone with the link can view it. Best for open, non-sensitive work.
- Passphrase-protected — viewers must enter a passphrase before they see anything. The passphrase is stored securely (never in plain text) and guessing is throttled. Use this for client-confidential material.
Managing a link
You stay in control of a link after it's out:
- Set an expiry — the link stops working after a date you choose.
- Republish — push the visualisation's current version to the existing link.
- Unpublish — revoke a link at any time; it immediately stops resolving.
A visualisation can have more than one link at once — for example, a public one and a separate passphrase-protected one — each managed independently.
